Although I've never really posted about my diet on my blog, if you know me in real life you would agree with me calling myself a total fruit monkey. Long story short, in 2011 I transitioned into a mostly (90% at best) raw fruit/veggies/nuts/seeds diet because I discovered that the reason for my on and off digestion problems were caused by gluten and sometimes dairy. I can't even begin to rave about the positive effects this change in grub has had on how I both look and feel. The internet is loaded with articles and blog posts about it all so I've put off writing about it myself, but in the future I might to share my experience and such!
On to what this post is exactly about. It's really easy to maintain a diet like this when you are at home, surrounded by the foods you've chosen yourself at the markets and in the shops. So how can I stay on track when I'm on trains, roadtrips, and flying around without carrying my weight in snacks around with me? It's an obvious suggestion really, but smoothies have been such a lifesaver for me over the holidays with all the time I've spent going from one place to another. They were readily available everywhere I went. To accompany the drinks I picked up on the go, I always pop an apple and banana or two in my handbag and some almonds too. Somtimes I will take some raw chopped vegetables if I make the time to prepare them before leaving the house! The best thing about eating like this while traveling is that I never feel groggy when I arrive.
This tip goes for everyone to be honest! Think about it. When you're sleep-deprived, amongst loads of all sorts of people with colds and who knows what, and breathing recycled air all day, your body's going to gladly soak up all the vitamins and unprocessed goodness you can give it.
I also really recommend taking a tube of water soluble vitamin-C tablets to pop in the bottles you buy just for an extra immune system boost :)
I hope this inspired you, Rachael Megan xxx
